Red Book Bags
The red books bags are rotated through classrooms on a weekly basis. At the end of the year, the red bags and books remain with the classroom for future use. If materials are kept in good shape, the Raising A Reader book bag kit can last from 5-8 years.
Wide Variety of Books
Book bag kits come in various sizes, and there is choice of book content to suit different ages and cultures. By rotating bags full of high quality books on a regular basis, children and families have all kinds of shared reading experiences with different types of books:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Monolingual (Spanish & English)
- Multicultural representation
- Alphabet
- Numbers
- Board books
- Picture books
- Animal themes
- Rhyming books
Blue Library Book Bags
The blue library book bags are given to each child to keep permanently after rotating the red book bags for a few months. Families are encouraged to take their children to the local library and use the blue library book bag to check out library books. Early child care providers are encouraged to include library card applications and other library materials when the blue library book bag is given out to each child and to talk to children and families about the library.
